This year, the anime adaptation of Kengan Ashura debuted on Netflix. Based on a popular martial-arts manga series by Sandrovich Yabako and artist Daromeon, the storyline follows how gladiator arenas have existed since the Edo periods of Japan, with weathy businessmen hiring gladiators to engage in combat where winner takes all. Ashura joins these arenas and proves to be an undefeated fighter, catching the attention of big corporation owners.
As this show features a lot of masculinity and martial arts, we wanted to capture the movement and unique fighting styles within the artwork suite, creating over 50 assets that could portray the fast paced nature of the show. From billboard displays to boxshots, we understand that the need to satisfy base desires for a brutal, battle royale beatdown is universal, thus producing localizations in several languages.
